Items Included
Clever Cleat Base, Plunger, 1 Lighter duty spring, 1 Heavier duty spring,
2 Bolt Covers. You will need: 2 bolts 3/8-1/2 dia. of adequate length
for your particular dock, a 3/8 socket drive and a socket matched to the
fastening bolts you select, a drill and correct sized drill bit.
Step One
Remove Clever Cleat from package and remove and discard the plastic test
spring from plunger. PLEASE RECYCLE PACKAGING. Ensure that tools and hardware
are placed so that they cannot roll or fall into the water!

Step Two
Position Cleat base in desired position on boat or dock and mark drilling
centers or drill directly through the base holes. Drill holes to needed
depth to ensure that the Clever Cleat will be securely attached to your
dock or boat.

Step Three
Select the stainless steel spring desired and place it into the plunger;
then insert the plunger into the cleat base.
Spring Selection
Two springs are provided. The lighter duty spring can be selected for
use with smaller boats and calm water conditions. The lighter spring facilitates
compression of the plunger with less force. For larger boats and rougher
water conditions, you may prefer to use the heavier duty spring.
Step Four
Position the base over the drilled holes and secure the Clever Cleat into
position with appropriate bolts (not included).
Step Five
Position and press plastic bolt covers into holes to cover bolt access
holes.

Securing Ropes
in Your Clever Cleat
The Clever Cleat secures ropes very effectively by a combination of spring
pressure and rope positioning. Therefore, it is important to place the
rope into the gripping areas on either side of the plunger AND loop the
working section of the rope once around the Cleat as shown to the right.

Depress plunger and slide rope into gripping areas on either side of plunger.

Loop working section of rope around cleat base as shown below.
